January 11, 2022
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a good holiday season and if you are like me hoping that 2022 brings new hope and light into our world.
On that note, your Board has decided to be optimistic and have started to plan for a 2022 dragon boat season. We don’t know yet if we will be able to paddle, because goodness knows what COVID is going to throw at us next, but as the Girl Guide motto says “Be Prepared”, so that is what we are going to do.
To that end, our goal for this coming year is rebuilding our Club and work on getting everyone back in the boats. If we can get out on the water, then in 2023 we will start looking at expanding our membership.
We hope to have a General Meeting some time in late February / early March once we are closer to the spring and know more about what is happening COVID-wise. But, we would like everyone to start thinking about how they can help us rebuild. We know we need coaches and steers, as well as other volunteers to help us get through the season. If you know now that you might be interested in either steering or coaching, please reach out either myself, Phil or Jen.
We have also signed up the Club to do a PIT Stop dinner on Sunday, May 8th. We will need about 20 volunteers to help prep, cook and serve up meals. PIT Stop is still doing take out only, so there is lots of room to socially distance as we prep. I will be sending out more information on this in April, but mark it in your calendar if you can make it. We go from noon to 5:00 and even if you can only come out for an hour, it all helps – many hands make light work!
Over the next couple of months, the Board will be investigating and making decisions about the coming season, including # of practices, the membership fee as well as # of festivals we may attend. At this time, we are thinking to keep it to a low number and local (other than the BC 55+ Games). We will keep you informed as we move towards the start of the season.
If anyone has any questions or comments, please feel free to reach out to me or any other member of the Board.
Take care and hopefully we will all see each other soon.
Paddles up!
